24 May Montclare Film Festival!
Cannes? Tribeca? Sundance? Yes, we’ve heard of them. But, this week we’re talking Montclare Film Festival! For the third consecutive year, Writopia Lab and Montclare Children’s School come together to present our one-of-a-kind 4s Film Festival!
This week, each of our 4s classrooms is presenting 3 original short films and one documentary after which they receive their awards (yes, this is a participation trophy, they all earned one!). They begin the process in September by sharing their stories, creating storyboards and then the filming begins. Some of our students are more at ease behind the camera than in front. While they are encouraged to try everything, they are also supported in their choices.
Finally, the 4s students assist with the editing process, “music supervision” and other creative choices. The results are nothing short of brilliant. There is no better way to get a glimpse into the inner-workings of the four-year-old mind! Providing them with this forum for their imaginations to run free and then channeling that creativity into these short films is such a rewarding experience each year.
We feel very fortunate to be partnered with the award-winning program, Writopia Lab, and thank our alumnae parent and founding Director Rebecca Wallace-Segall and her husband Jeremy Wallace-Segall for bringing this to our community!
Here’s Writopia’s montage from our first film festival. Enjoy!
